We met up with The Adams Family (Louis and Crystal) for some afternoon drinks before going back to their house to watch the Missouri game (I guess we can never watch another game ever there), and D said, "Let's go to the new Mediterranean place near Furman."
Me being the good husband that I am, I said, "Ok."
We pulled up to Parsley & Mint for a late lunch, and had the place to ourselves.
I ordered my usual, "Chicken and feta", and the guy asked, "Do you want grilled chicken or Mediterranean?" I said, "Uh, I don't know." So he walked over and uncovered the trays with both. I looked down, grilled chicken looks like grilled chicken. Then he uncovered the Mediterranean and as soon as my eyes locked onto it I said, "Yeah, Mediterranean."
I just typed Mediterranean the most in a single paragraph than I ever have in my entire life before this moment ... and it was all for you.
These picture don't do the seasoning justice.
I got some spicy Harissa on the side so I could add my own. I did just a few drops here and there, and it was just right. This is the perfect combination.
I waited for the pita chips to be made (brace yourself for those), and when I came back D looked up and went, "Oh my gah that chicken" and made this face of amazement.
Then it dawned on me, she didn't get chicken, so she ate part of mine.
She got the falafel, with spicy feta, I think some other stuff, and mild Harissa sauce.
She loved hers, but the whole time she kept sayin, "Gah that chicken is just so good."
And it was. It's the best pita wrap I've had since Babaziki's on Woodruff Rd closed down (RIP Babaziki)
The pita chips, well, they're the best I've ever had period.
When I walked up and ordered the chips, the guy grabbed a pita, cut it into pieces, fried them, and then threw them in a bowl with the seasoning.
These things came out not only delicious, but so warm.
One of the best Gamecocks I've been fortunate to interact with since starting Talk Cocky With Me and Gamecock Eats is Rick Miller. He won a giveaway I put on for a bottle of whiskey, but said he didn't drink. I told him that I owed him and to name the place he wanted a gift card to. He mentioned a Mediterranean restaurant that he really liked ... and as I'm typing this I have realized I never got him that card and sent it to him ... whoopsie. I'll get you one from Parsley and Mint.
After posting the first pictures on Twitter of our lunch, he drove nearly an hour the very next day to give it a try. Although they were supposed to be open, they were "closed due to staffing issues."
Two days later, Rick returned, they were open, and he had this to post about ...
Since Babaziki closed, we've been trying to find a new place. There's some good places in Greenville, but we hadn't found the place that we could say, "Ok, we're going there every single time we have a craving."
We have now!
In all of my years of doing food review blogs, I have always been extremely picky on giving out "5 stars" (my old blog I did pigs and now Spurs Up). I'm a picky critique and can usually find room for improvement. I really don't know of a single thing that could have made this any better. If Babaziki was still around, I'm not even sure they could beat this.
Damn, now I'm hungry.
